2009 Marching Band Theme -- Download
Yorktown’s 2009 program, “Download,” takes the audience through the process of a computer download in five exciting movements.

The first movement is set to the music of Tapesty of Nations by Gavin Greenaway; as heard played by the 2000 DCI World Champion Cadets. In this movement, the audience will see a visual representation of a computer attempting to find, and connect to, a network; culminating when the performers come together visually and musically for “Connection Established!” “Downloading…”,

The second movement, features the woodwind section in a challenging arrangement of the Assez Vif from Maurice Ravel’s String Quartet in F. An abrupt ending to this piece, which leaves performers in a distorted visual set, segues into a beautiful arrangement of Hide and Seek by Imogen Heap for the 3rd movement, “Connection Lost,” in which performers struggle to reconnect to the host server.

The percussion section sets the stage for the 4th movement, “Download Complete,” in which the computer reconnects and completes the much anticipated download (at a blazing 180 beats per minute) based on the motifs from The National Anthem by Radiohead.

The 5th, and final movement, “Playing Selection,” is the actual playing of the song which was downloaded throughout the first four movements. For a majority of the closer, the visual package is set to the song Stockholm Syndrome (Muse), but is tied together with a reprise of the thematic elements from Hide and Seek.

2010 Band Day - September 11
The Yorktown Band Boosters has announced plans for this year’s Band Day fundraising event to benefit the school’s band and color guard programs. On the morning of September 11, uniformed members of the school’s band and color guard will visit Yorktown High School district homes seeking donations to support their program.
This is the second year that the Boosters group has sponsored the neighborhood door-to-door campaign. This is the largest annual fundraiser sponsored by the YHS Band Boosters.
Last year’s effort enabled the Boosters to purchase several new instruments, provide need-based scholarships, and fund enrichment programs for band and color guard members.
Area residents interested in making a contribution to the Yorktown Band Day fundraiser can contribute online using PayPal by visiting the band’s website at www.yorktownband.org.
